About Me

Summary

I am a psychotherapist practicing from a mindfulness perspective and have been practicing for nearly 30 years.

About Me

I have been in mental health services for more than twenty years, starting as an assistant group leader while completing my BA in Psychology at Indiana University with a minor in Women’s Studies/Gender Studies, followed by an MA in Counseling Psychology at Valparaiso University, Indiana. I started my private practice in 1996. As my experiences accumulated, I realized that a missing component of most psychological or counseling theories was the spiritual element. Accordingly, and when appropriate, there is a very strong spiritual component to the work I do with clients. Over the years, many clients have referred to me as more their spiritual coach/director than as their therapist or counselor.
The process of counselling is explorative in nature. You might want counselling for anger management or depression or relationship difficulties. And we’ll explore those issues, as well as define your goals for the outcome of your counselling. But the origin of your issues may not be exactly what you think it is.
Through the process of counselling, I will listen, and ask questions. We will explore your thoughts and feelings relevant to the issue that you came for.

I have been registered in 3 States, and am currently registered as both a Registered Psychotherapist (RP), in Ontario, Canada, and a Registered Clinical Counselor (RCC) in British Columbia.
I have presented at international conferences (SAND and The Centre for Human Consciousness) on the topics of men’s spirituality, human consciousness and mental health, domestic violence and abuse, and critical incident trauma. My professional work is in providing therapy, consulting and I’m a clinical supervisor.
Therapy is provided both face-to-face in my office, and online via phone or video. I currently offer both individual and couples therapy, as well as group therapy locally, and online.

Practice Philosophy

My Approach to Therapy

Counselling should be ecological. That means simply that the tools you acquire and the discoveries you make should be self-sustaining. My goal is for you to become healthier, resolve your issues, and live your life in a way that ultimately brings you more joy and satisfaction, in which you find more meaning in your relationships – both with your self, and with others.
Counselling is cooperative. I do not give ‘advice’ but work to help you find your own answers and develop your own resources.

I approach every client as unique and ultimately having the capacity to find their own answers. And I am very strong proponent in the use mindfulness therapy.
