About Me

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in sexual addictions

About Me

I have twenty years of experience working with individuals and couples. I specialize in sexual addiction, couples counseling and trauma therapy. I graduated from Azusa Pacific University with a Masters in Clinical Psychology and earned a Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy from Ryokan College. I am a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) and a certified sex addiction therapist (CSAT). Furthermore, I have been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), which is an evidence-based treatment modality for trauma and anxiety. In addition to individual and couples counseling, I offer group therapy for male sex addicts. For more information about me and my practice, please log on: http://www.SanJoseCounseling.com

Practice Philosophy

My Approach to Therapy

There are times when life doesn’t turn out the way we had hoped.  Despite our best efforts, we find ourselves having to deal with difficult life challenges.  I believe that therapy can assist all of us in connecting the proverbial dots, and help us obtain connection with ourselves and those in our close circles.

As the clinician, my part is to make awareness happen.  I often use the metaphor of the clients being pilots and me being the air traffic controller where I am informing them of obstacle in their path.  By establishing a safe environment, I encourage the client(s) to ask questions, share their beliefs, thoughts and feelings, so that together we can come up with a treatment plan that supports their therapeutic goal(s).

More Information About My Practice

I personally believe that we cannot take our clients where we have not been, nor can we give them what we do not have.  One of the best advise I received from a very seasoned therapist was to work on my issues, no matter how trivial they were.  In addition, one of the most important factor in therapy is building rapport and making patients feel that they are heard and understood.  Yes, all of us clinicians are trained in certain modalities, but at the end of the day, what matters most is being present and empathize with our patients’ pain.
