Therapy is about finding and owning your strengths, values, and dreams and accepting, dealing with, and overcoming the challenges in your life. Every journey is different, so my goal as a therapist is to tailor my approach to my client's individual needs. I use a variety of approaches, including mindfulness, hypnotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and client centered approaches. I find mutually developed homework assignments that encourage experimenting with new behavior and appropriate risk-taking very helpful in meeting goals, making changes, and fostering growth.
I've been a psychologist for more than two decades and was a licensed mental health counselor prior to that. Besides psychotherapy I also have extensive experience with career counseling. I have trained in hypnotherapy and frequently teach clients self-hypnosis as an aid in dealing with anxiety, unwanted thoughts, and self-esteem issues.
I grew up in a military family and my oldest son is a graduate of the United Services Health Science University, the military's medical school, so I have an understanding of the issues military families face and an interest in working with them. Saturday and evening appointment hours are available.
