I have been helping people achieve fuller lives for over twenty-five years. My approach is grounded and progressive, based on an empathic connection, and understanding what keeps you from feeling and living well now. I practice depth therapy, also known as psychodynamic therapy, which is intended to create lasting change, not just immediate symptom relief which may endure. I work with individual adults.
Together we empathically explore your current condition and background to understand what old coping mechanisms you may still be using that are no longer helpful. We identify the patterns in your life that can result in depression, anxiety, difficult relationships, and unsatisfying careers. To do so we need to understand not just what you think consciously, but also what is going on in the background, unconsciously, because that has a huge impact on how we behave and related to others.
I enjoy relating to people one-on-one, seeing them grow and feel better, and the ongoing challenge to understand myself and keep growing. It is very interesting and rewarding work.
Finding a good fit is very important in psychotherapy. I hope that you feel free to meet with 2 or 3 therapists to make sure that you feel you have found someone that you feel comfortable with.
I have over 25 years clinical experience, am a certified Jungian analyst, serve on the faculty of the C.G. Jung Institute of New York, and am president of the New York Association for Analytical Psychology.
I am the author of I'm Working On It In Therapy: How to Get the Most Out of Psychotherapy. I feel that as therapists we often don't explain the process of therapy very well. I do my best to help you understand how to make the best use of your time in therapy.
I also write a blog called The Healthy Compulsive, which helps people to understand and make use of their personality, rather than try to change into something that they are not.
I do not accept any forms of insurance. If you have out-of-network benefits, I could give you a form at the end of each month to submit to your insurance carrier for reimbursement. I am also willing to moderate my fee if you are unable to pay my full fee. I accept checks, cash, and Venmo.
